If AI can write, code, and recall information faster than you, what should you put on your résumé?

I'm not sure competing with a model is the useful goal here. If I were hiring, I'd want to know what you can do with these tools and whether I could rely on your work.

That is harder to communicate through a list of skills. A small piece of finished work can make the conversation much more useful.

Show the decisions, not just the result

A generated demo might look impressive. But I would want to understand what happened around it. What failed? What did you test? What did you change after another person tried it? Which parts would you still not trust?

Those answers show whether you can stand behind the output.

I'd also want to know what you chose to leave out. A polished demo tells me less than your explanation of why you built it that way.

Make your thinking easy to follow

The same applies to writing and interviews. A polished paragraph is easy to produce. Explaining why a problem matters, recommending an approach, and naming the tradeoffs still requires a point of view.

An application can demonstrate that by engaging with the company’s problem, rather than becoming a longer version of your résumé.

In an interview, I'd rather hear a good question than a confident guess. Listen to the answer, and be clear about what you know and what you're assuming.

Close the loop

A modest project that someone actually uses gives you more to discuss than an ambitious idea that never leaves a presentation.

Keep the problem small enough to finish. Then find out what happened when someone used the result. Did it help? Did they come back? What would you change?

If you had to learn a new tool or ask for help along the way, include that. Being self-sufficient does not mean knowing everything or working alone. It means knowing how to make progress.

Remember that someone has to work with you

And someone has to work with you after the interview. Whether you follow through, give credit, and admit mistakes matters too.

None of this guarantees an offer. It does give you something concrete to show.

Pick a problem relevant to the role, try a small solution, and explain what happened. Include where AI helped and where you had to correct it.
